Gertrude Elizabeth Blood by Giovanni Boldini

Gertrude Elizabeth Blood (1857-1911) married into a higher class, only to be the rare exception of a woman granted a divorce on grounds of cruelty after her new husband, Lord Colin Campbell, infected her with syphilis. Despite this perceived stain on her reputation, she went on to live a rich life as a journalist. Gertrude wrote on her favorite subjects: fishing, sport, art, fashion, and travel. She enjoyed singing, fencing, painting and also spoke Italian, French, German, Spanish and Arabic. A bon vivant apparently quite eccentric with a quick wit, she perfectly represents Corvus Design House. Giovanni Boldini, 1897
